Lessons Learned at the Piano Keys
This life we live is two simultaneous journeys – the physical one and the spiritual one. God builds within each of us a deep desire, something our heart craves, and for me one of those things was learning to play the piano. While working full time, raising two kids, and married to a military officer who deployed multiple times there was no way I could pursue this passion. However, after I retired my husband encouraged me to sign up for piano lessons. Here is where I saw my two simultaneous journeys collide more than I ever had in the past. As I began my journey learning to play the piano, I was taken down an unexpected journey where God taught me lessons about me and about Him. I learned how those desires He placed in my heart were put there as a way to draw me closer to His side as well as to serve and worship Him. The devotional I wrote was His idea, not mine. Through obedience to Him I have exposed my vulnerabilities, shared my struggles, and trust that He will use what I learned to reach deep inside the heart of those who read the words He had me put on the pages of the book. While you don’t need to know anything about music or playing the piano to understand the spiritual lessons I learned while sitting in front of the piano keys, you do need a heart that desires to walk with the One who loves you and goes with you through this journey we call life.
